I work in media to make sure that
everyone’s voices are heard.
Laynie's Story
In addition to Cream and Crimson Studios and Big Ten Student U, I also had the opportunity to work with the Indiana Daily Student and the Indiana University Student Television network while at school. For the IDS, I operated as their inaugural Director of Community Engagement, organizing town halls with the community, forming partnerships with high schools, and creating opportunities for reporters to engage with the community. For IUSTV, I operated in a few different positions throughout my four years witih them. I started out as a behind the scenes photographer, worked my way up to Director of Public Relations my junior year, and ended my time with them as Executive Producer/Director of the organization.
When I first arrived at Indiana University, I had no experience in media. I’m from a small town in Indiana, my graduating class barely hit triple digits, and we had more cornfields than people. When I said I wanted to major in media, people laughed. The first class I participated in when I came to IU was a week long sports production boot camp. At the end of the week, I had fallen in love with everything live production. I recieved the opportunity to work for Cream and Crimson Studios at IU and participate in Big Ten Student U. Since joining my freshman year, I have worked close to 100 broadcasts with IU and Big Ten Student U.
